Preparing for Your Portrait Session ABOUT THE ARTIST Mr. Venn, of RV Photography, has been in professional photography since 1982. Creating "Portraits of Perception" with a unique and individual flair has earned Randall many awards by his fellow professional photographers. But most importantly, his portraits have feeling and emotional appeal to the viewer. "I believe it's essential to create each portrait as you want to be perceived, be it real or imaginary, making a lasting memory of your accomplishments, dreams and the times of your life." PLANNING YOUR PORTRAIT We can enhance your portrait with proper clothing, colors and items of interest - this is where we need your help. Please read the following suggestions and call us if you have any questions. CLOTHING Simplicity is the key in choosing clothing for your portraits. Solid colors are best. Avoid bold patterns and bright colors that tend to draw the eye away from the face when viewing a portrait. Keep in mind that white & light colors expand and therefore add weight to the subject, while dark colors recede, making people appear slimmer. We recommend long sleeves to help keep flesh tones of arms from competing with the face. Dress for full length and be sure to coordinate socks and shoes. We encourage both formal and informal changes of changes. From jeans, to formal attire, to sports uniforms . . . it's up to you. Bring a variety of possibilities and we'll help you select the outfits that are best. GROUPS Selecting appropriate clothing for groups is a little more difficult. Too many different colors and patterns will cause clutter and you won't be able to "see" faces. It's important for groups to harmonize colors and style - all formal or informal. No one person should dominate the portrait. We suggest you lay out the clothing wherever the portrait will be displayed to check formality and color. We would be happy to consult with you on your clothing options. PERSONALIZED ITEMS To better reflect your personality, we would like to include items that suggest your lifestyle, hobbies or profession. We encourage you to bring along any items of special interest such as sports equipment, musical instruments, crafts, hats, family heirlooms, your vehicle, pet, or even your favorite teddy bear. GROOMING To look natural and your best - wear your hair the way you usually do - don't try a new style for your portrait. If you plan to have a haircut, schedule it at least one week ahead so fresh cut ends will not stand out. Make-up should be worn as usual. Any facial blemishes can be minimized with a cover stick. An extra coat of mascara will enhance your eyes and a little color in the cheeks is desirable. Be sure to bring your make-up, hair spray and comb for last minute freshening. Please ask us if you wish to have a professional make-up artist or hair stylist for your portrait. Men should shave within one hour of the portrait, a 5 o’clock shadow cannot be removed in retouching. If you wear eyeglasses and are concerned with glass glare, please discuss this with us prior to the day of your portrait's session.
